Archaeological objects of all artistic form and material are invaluable to our understanding of past societies and culture. 

Prehistoric ceramic forms were created in numerous ways and for uncountable reasons. These variables differ greatly between regions, social hierarchies and time periods. 

One dominant purpose for the production of ceramic forms was utilitarian. Household cooking and storage vessels for consumables are common examples.
